The Alleyton novellas begins in 1863 when two soldiers, Seth Randolph and Jerry Tomlin, were assigned to nearby Camp Webb to protect the government cotton from thieving war profiteers. As these two men worked together, they became close friends who both grew fond of Alleyton. After the war, Seth and Jerry chose to remain in Alleyton and the four Alleyton books follow these two men, as they become soldiers, farmers, ranchers and eventually family men in post war Colorado County, Texas.
