This is Boethel's fourth volume on the history of Lavaca County. It is divided into four major parts: early settlers, military organizations in the Civil War, settlers in the Civil War and other settlers on the Lavaca and Navidad Rivers. The meat of the volume is in part two where the following military organizations are covered complete with rosters of the Lavaca County troops: Co. D 2nd Texas Cavalry, Co. A 12th Texas Infantry, Co. D 27th Texas Cavalry (Whitfield's Legion) and Co. M, 27th Texas Cavalry (Whitfield's Legion). Also included are biographical sketches on the following families: Kents, Pontons, Livergoods, Mims, Creath, Whitfield, Ives, Dodd, Walton, Foster, West and Searcy.
